Born in Estonia and underwent classical training with the Estonian Ballet School, where the influence of the Great Russian teachers is renowned. In 1988 he joined the Estonian State Opera Ballet where he danced his first Albrecht, Siegfried and Romeo. In 1990 Edur was awarded a Bronze Medal at the Jackson Mississippi International Ballet Competition and with Agnes Oaks they were awarded the Best Senior Couple Prize.

Later that year he was invited to join the English National Ballet and quickly established a rapport with British audiences.

Thomas was presented the Evening Standard Outstanding Performance Award for Ballet in 1994 and nominated twice for a Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance 1995/97. In 1996 he joined Birmingham Royal Ballet, for one season.

His repertory includes Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Coppelia, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Manon, Etudes, Les Sylphides, Cinderella, Sphinx, Apollo, Paquita, Four last songs, Onegin (Lenski), The Taming of the Shrew (Lucentio), Three preludes, Don Quixote to name a few.

He created roles in ballets by Robert North, Olga Roriz, Christopher Dean, Ronald Hynd, Derek Deane, Raissa Struchkova, and Mai Murdmaa. Since becoming a Freelance Artist in 1997 Thomas has danced in many countries around the world, mostly in celebrated partnership with his wife Agnes Oaks. Currently Thomas is a resident guest artist with English National Ballet, guest in La Scala Milan, and most recently Zurich Ballet.
